Our current squad structure for consists of 6
squads, each with a different goal or objective. We cater for entry
level, juniors, senior recreational swimmers and state level swimmers.
Below you will find an outline of our progressive squad program.
Nippers
Program: This group is the first step in our club program with
emphasis on stroking, building kicking strength and learning routines
and drills. In addition, diving, racing technique, relay changeovers and
the rules of swimming are taught.
Sessions offered: The Nipper Squad has two sessions available per week (Sunday and Tuesday evenings).
Swimmers in this squad are typically 7-9
years old. In regards to competition, this squad takes part in the Club
Championships and selected district and encouragement meets. Upon
completion of this level, swimmers will move into either Junior A or
Junior B Squad.
Junior B
Program: This group is the second step in our club program with
emphasis being placed on swimming greater distances while maintaining
technique, reinforcing and adding to routines and drills learnt in
Nippers and being introduced to more complex racing skills.
Sessions offered: Junior B squad sessions are available three times per week (Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings).
Swimmers in this squad are typically 7 –
11 years old and are working towards being competitive in all four
strokes. This squad takes part in the Club Championships, encouragement
meets and is introduced to more district level meetings. Upon completion
of this level, swimmers will move into Junior A.
Junior A
Program: This group is the highest level of junior squad
offered, and involves learning how to maintain correct technique whilst
racing, adding to the repertoire of drills learnt in previous squads and
the introduction of more distance based and sprint work.
Sessions offered: Junior A Squad runs four times per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday evenings).
Swimmers in this squad are typically 9 –
12 and swim two sessions per week and are capable of competing in all
four strokes. Swimmers are involved in Winter and Spring Pennant relays,
Club Championships, District Meets and other selected meets. Upon
completion of this level, swimmers can move into either the Development
Squad or the Senior Squad.
Senior Recreation Squad
Program: This squad is appropriate for those aged 12 and over
who wish to continue to extend their swimming skills, whilst exploring
other opportunities that swimming has to offer, including lifesaving,
water polo and underwater hockey.
Sessions offered: Senior Squad runs two
times per week (Tuesday and Thursday evening).
Swimmers in this group are involved in a
strength and flexibility program once a week and can take part in
various competitions throughout the year including club champs,
interclub/pennant relays and individual meets.
State Squad
Program: Swimmers in this squad work towards swimming at the
Victorian Short Course and Victorian Long Course Championships each
year, in addition to the State Sprint Championships and various other
meets throughout the year. Swimmers in this squad are typically aged 10 –
18 years old.
Program Commitment: Swimmers must commit
to a minimum of three sessions per week with the expectation to train up
to 4 or 5 times per week and are involved in a dry-land program.
(Mon-Thu morning and Sunday afternoon)
Swimmers in this squad must have
qualified for, or are in range of qualifying for, the Victorian State
Championships. Membership of this squad is by invitation only and
subject to review.
